About Us

The one thing Tamils across the world had in common was their love for Tamil Cinema. And so it was decided that Seventh Channel Communications Would conduct the very first international Tamil Film Awards.

It was also decided that the show would not be a ticketed event but one that was left open to discerning viewers without a cost.A decision that involved a lot of risk but was pursued nonetheless. The chosen destination - Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia.

Primarily because Malaysia had a sizeable chunk of the Tamil population in south East Asia and was also home to some of the biggest Tamil Cinema fans on the planet who contributed heavily to the overseas business of the industry. And so on october 12,2003,Malaysia played host to the first ITFA held at the spectacular Genting Highland, Kuala lumpur. The event showcased the biggest names in the Tamil Cinema industry and played to a packed audience, some of the members having traveled across the world from Australia,Kenya,England,Dubai,Germany,South Africa,Sri Lanka,Usa and the various neighbouring countries.

The show was a huge success to say the least and indeed went a great step forward in enabling Tamils from across the globe to meet, make contact and network with each other.it also showcased Tamil Cinema and Tamil Cine artistes in an international arena which was till then unavailable and impossible on one platform. But the journey does't stop there. In fact only there has it begun.Seventh Channel plans to take the ITFA to shores across the globe, every year until every region with a Tamil population has been touched and connected. An ambitious man to conjure it in the first place.

Just as taking tamil cinema to global platform the thought of bringing world cinema to the local tamils here, in Tamil Nadu, also took shape in 2004. The thought unfolded into action in December 2004 when the Film Festival of Tamil Nadu (international) 2004 was launched. The very first screening had 23 international Films from various parts of the globe(with english sub-titles) not to miss even an icelandic Film. To add colour & competitiveness to the film festival 5 Awards were bestowed to the 'Best' in categories Actor,Actress,Director, Film & Popularly Voted.

This festival was hosted in conjunction with "The international Tamil Film Academy"which is a registered society that promotes cultural activities.
